Instagram has over 400 million active monthly users, with over 35% of these users using Instagram daily. Last year, Forrester analysed over 3 million user interactions with more than 2500 brands on the seven social networks. Instagram generated an engagement rate of 4.21%, 58 times more than Facebook and a staggering 120 times more than Twitter.
The above statistics show how Instagram has and will continue to grow and is now one of the most popular social networks for brands and individuals alike.
As you know, social media is an evolving platform and Instagram’s announcement this week is a step on the evolution trail. They announced an all-new app that allows you to create one second video loops called Boomerang.
Boomerang allows you to press and button and record just once second of a video. The app doesn’t just play the video once and repeat, the app plays the clip, rewinds and repeats (hence the name boomerang). The video in total, is actually four seconds long.
The clips are recorded via a burst of stills rather than a video, giving the perfect look and GIF-like video appearance. GIF’s are becoming more and more popular as a way to showcase products on social media so Instagram are on the money with this new app.
To see how Boomerang works, check out the video below;
Boomerang is Instagram’s second video app, following the release of Hyperlapse last year. Hyperlapse allows you to create moving, handheld time lapses using quality cinematic filters making the video look as though it has been shot using expensive equipment.
These aren’t however, integrated into the native Instagram app but they are well worth using separately, with the end goal being to share on Instagram.
Instagram said the following;
“Press a button and the app does the rest. Boomerang takes a burst of photos and stitches them together into a high-quality mini video that plays forward and backward. Shoot in portrait or landscape. Share it on Instagram. Boomerang automatically saves it to your camera roll. We’re inspired by the visual stories you tell on Instagram. With looping videos and Hyperlapse, you experiment with motion in new and exciting ways. Now, with Boomerang, we can’t wait to see what you’ll create next.”
Boomerang is available on iOS and Android so don’t forget to check it out and remember to have fun with it, and create something worth sharing!
