Every tuesday I like to talk about a certain tool or piece of technology that I have been using for quite a while and one which most entrepreneurs should also be using. This week is no different when it comes to Klout.

Klout is a tool in both desktop and mobile format that uses your social media analytics to rank a user based on their social influence online which is called a “Klout Score”. Klout will measure a user’s popularity based on their size of social media database and how they interact with other users on a scale of 1 to 100 (100 being the highest). If you are scoring over 60, you are in the top 3% online, which I am very happy to be amongst at 67!

Since Klout partnered up with Lithium in 2014, they have been unveiling a number of new features to enhance their already strong tool.

After listening to feedback, they have introduced a number of new features that will make it easier for users to identify other users based on their content, trust and expertise.

Klout Topic Expertise

This new feature is being rolled out this month and will make it easier for users to identify experts in certain industries, based on their topics of interest. To be considered as a Klout Expert on a certain topic, you must be in the top three percentage of all users, globally.

As you can see below, there are a number of topics that I am considered an expert in including Social Media Speaker, Digital Marketing Trainer and Author, which gives me the credibility I have worked very hard to achieve online.

Non-Klout Users

While Klout want as many users as possible, they are identifying with the fact that they need to be making everyone who is an online influencer accessible so that all klout users can find what they are looking for from an industry expert with a high influence.

New Languages

At the end of this month, most of Klout’s core features include your score, the app navigation, alerts and perks will all be available in four new languages; Arabic, French, German and Spanish. As we move into summer, these languages will also be implemented through the topic expertise feature as well as topic pages. This is the first-ever internationalisation of the Klout platform which is a step in the right direction.

Klout has made their mark by introducing new and powerful ways to find experts in any given industry, as well as bringing in new languages. Keep an eye out for all the above features with your Klout account and if you’re not already signed up to Klout, I suggest that is something you do today to find out where your expertise lie.
